How many fire alarms should I have in my home?

One of the best ways to protect your family from a house fire is to have properly installed alarms throughout the home. A fire alarm can detect smoke and flames, which can give you time to escape before the fire consumes your house. The number of fire alarms you should have in your home depends on the size of your house and the number of bedrooms. It's recommended that there be a smoke alarm in each bedroom, on every level of the home and outside each sleeping area. If your house has a basement, it's important to have one there as well.
